Geofence
Literally translated and figuratively speaking, a geofence is a geographic fence.
It is a virtual boundary or geographic perimeter defined using GPS (Global Positioning System), RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification), Wi-Fi (Wireless Local Area Network), or other location-based technologies.
A geofence allows specific events or actions to be triggered automatically whenever a device—such as a smartphone or a GPS tracker—enters or exits a defined area.
