Warehouse management systems in intralogistics
In order not to lose track of goods and raw materials in logistics, industry and trade, sophisticated warehouse management systems are used here. These support the warehouse keeper in the optimal storage of goods and thus enable organized storage and retrieval.
What factors play a role in the warehouse management system?
In order for the deployed warehouse management system to work efficiently and be used sensibly, it needs some information about the stored goods. These include, for example:
- The shelf life of the good
- Dimensions
- Weight
- Form
- Turnover rate of the goods
- Special storage conditions, if necessary
- Consistency
The shelf life of a good, as in the case of food, plays a decisive role in storage, for example. Thus, it can decide on the storage principle (FiFo or LiFo) and the storage location.
Bearing guide systems also decide between flexible and fixed storage. In the flexible/dynamic variant, the goods are placed in the next free space according to the chaotic storage. In fixed storage, each good is assigned a fixed storage bin.
