Terms such as warehousing software, warehouse management system (WMS) or warehouse management system (WMS) are usually used synonymously nowadays. Against this background, a direct demarcation is also difficult. Strictly speaking, warehousing software concentrates purely on the management of storage locations and stock levels. Functions for optimizing internal processes are generally not included.
Warehouse management software in this sense is particularly suitable for smaller storage and picking areas and is also sometimes offered as freeware. This free version includes standard functions for managing a manageable number of stocks and storage locations. However, it is not possible to connect to higher-level ERP or merchandise management systems.
