Nowadays, terms such as warehousing software, warehouse management system (WMS) or warehouse management system (WMS) are mostly used synonymously. Against this background, a direct demarcation is also difficult. Strictly speaking, warehousing software focuses purely on the management of storage locations and the inventory of goods. Functions for optimizing internal processes are not usually included in this.
Warehousing software in this sense is particularly suitable for smaller warehouse and picking areas and is partly also offered as so-called freeware. This free variant includes standard functions for managing a manageable number of inventories and storage locations. However, the connection to higher-level ERP or merchandise management systems is not possible.
