What is Track and Trace?

In intralogistics, instead of shipment tracking, we often speak of track-and-trace. This refers to the internal and external tracking of parcels and loading units - this is possible thanks to advanced information technologies. In order to be able to trace the goods, notification data, so-called accompanying information, is required:

  • Sender information
  • Target information
  • Control information
  • Ident information

Track-and-trace is designed to ensure the various stages of the supply chain. The exact location of the shipment can be determined at any time. With the help of this information, capacities can be adjusted and processes optimized.
