Mobile data terminals (MDE)

Mobile data terminals (MDE) are electronic devices used by the picker to query items or record them in the system. They are either hand-held or attached to a transporter such as a forklift.
The printed picking lists are replaced by the MDE devices and all information is provided via the device. Most devices are equipped with a keyboard, display (usually touch screen) and scanner. With the help of these devices, pick positions can be acknowledged, shortages can be transmitted and integrated into the warehouse management software.

Advantages of mobile data terminals:

  • Real-time communication
  • Increase flexibility
  • Additional reconciliation of inventories is superfluous
  • Time is saved
  • Minimization of picking errors

Disadvantages of mobile data terminals:

  • Picking services are reduced
  • One hand is in seizure, remedy by pick-by-voice or pick-by-light
