Waiver customer: No additional coverage by the transport or forwarding insurance.
A so-called waiver customer or prohibition customer is a customer who uses services of a forwarder, but at the same time waives insurance coverage for transport and storage. The forwarder is not obliged to insure the transported goods separately - typically within the framework of a so-called damage or forwarding insurance.
Important: The general rules are that the forwarder is generally entitled, but not obliged. It depends on whether the insurance of the goods is in the interest of the customer. Usually this can be assumed if insurance was "procured" for previous orders or if a value of goods was specified. Further details are regulated by the German Freight Forwarders' Standard Terms and Conditions, e.g. the ADSp 2017.
The waiver customer or prohibition customer actively prohibits the forwarder from arranging additional insurance coverage. Usually there is then a separate general insurance of the customer or principal of the forwarding agency.
