Carousel storage system
The choice of the appropriate conveyor technology depends not only on the type and size of the storage areas, but also on the types of goods that are to be managed with it. Unlike e.g. fixed storage racks, a carousel storage system thus serves a dynamic storage system - this means that the storage compartments or storage units are attached to permanently circulating support means. In practice, the carousel storage system can be implemented as a so-called vertical or horizontal carousel storage system, whereby chains or toothed belts can be used for the load-bearing equipment.
An example of a circulating storage rack working in vertical direction is the so-called paternoster. If, on the other hand, a horizontally constructed carousel storage rack is used, for example, other space conditions are required. Typically, these types of storage racks are implemented as shelf racks, but depending on the industry, cantilever racks are also possible.
The special feature of circulating storage racks is that they operate according to the goods-to-man principle and are based on cyclic circulation, i.e. the storage locations (for storage and retrieval) are brought to the operating station in each case.
