Row Storage System

What is Row Storage System?

The term row storage system (German: Zeilenlager) can be found in different fields. In mechanics, it refers to a type of linear bearing that supports a component along a line rather than at a single point (point bearing). However, in this context, we focus on its meaning in logistics.

In logistics, a row storage system describes a specific type of warehouse layout where storage racks or shelving units are organized in parallel rows. This arrangement enables clear structure, good visibility, and efficient access to goods.

Key Characteristics of a Row Storage System:

  • Goods (e.g., pallets or containers) are stored in parallel rows, forming well-defined lines or lanes.
  • Aisles are typically placed between rows to allow forklifts or other industrial trucks to move and access items safely and efficiently.

Advantages of Row Storage:

  • Simple and organized layout
  • Good accessibility and visibility of stock
  • Compatible with various picking systems and material handling equipment
  • Scalable and suitable for both manual and automated warehouse environments
