Mixed pallet

What is a mixed pallet?

A mixed pallet is a pre-picked pallet on which different items are stacked and transported together. Mixed pallets are very common in the grocery retail sector, for example. The wholesaler or central warehouse assembles the goods ordered by the retailer on a mixed pallet and sends it to the respective store. By combining multiple orders on one pallet, the available loading space is used as efficiently as possible.

In addition to sales or retail mixed pallets, there are also production mixed pallets. These contain various parts or components for a production process. Another form of mixed pallet is the promotional mixed pallet, which consists entirely of promotional or campaign products intended for retail.

Mixed pallets are usually stabilized with stretch film, cardboard or plastic layer pads, as well as strapping and edge protectors. Regardless of the securing method, building a mixed pallet requires a stable stacking technique to prevent the load from tipping over during transport.

Mixed pallets differ from uniform pallets, which contain only a single type of item.

Characteristics of mixed pallets:

  • Contain different items varying in shape, size, and weight

  • Very common in retail deliveries

  • Help optimize transport and loading space by combining multiple orders for individual recipients

  • Stability and load distribution often pose a challenge
