What is a storage-and-retrieval machine?
Special auxiliary equipment is used in order to be able to handle the goods stored higher up in a multi-level warehouse. These storage-and-retrieval machines are usually single-track rail-guided and can even reach the top level in a high-bay warehouse.
Storage-and-retrieval machines in logistics come in versions between six and a maximum of 46 meters. They can either be linked to a row of racks via a linear rail system, or travel across the entire warehouse using a switch system.
How are storage and retrieval machines constructed?
The storage-and-retrieval machines used in logistics consist of a combination of lifting gear and a lifting carriage. A load handling attachment is also used, as storage-and-retrieval machines are not designed for transporting goods through the warehouse.
Storage-and-retrieval machines usually consist of these components:
- Bogie, mostly single-track rail-guided
- Mast, connection between the trolley and the headrail
- Lifting trolleys, for transporting the goods to be transported
- Head traverse, for removal from the shelf
